The components of food are Carbohydrates, Fats, Proteins, Minerals, Vitamins, Water, and Roughage. If all the components are present in optimum proportion and quantity for maintaining the body in perfect state of health, activity and development then the food is called balanced diet.
CARBOHYDRATES-
Constitutes three elements Carbon, Hydrogen and oxygen. daily requirement 500 gms, 1 gms give 17 Kj of energy.
FAT-
Provides twice the energy of carbohydrates. (1 gms provide 37 Kj of energy) Daily requirement 50gms.
PROTEINS-
Made up of Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Nitrogen. Important for growth and repair of the body.
MINERALS-
Calcium, Phosphorus, Sulphur, Potassium, Chlorine, Sodium, Magnesium, Iron and Iodine.
VITAMINS-
Necessary for normal growth, good health, good vision, proper digestion of the body etc. They don't provide energy to our body.
WATER-
Important in digestion, transportation, excretion and to regulate body temperature. (body contain 65% water)
