The Great Dane is of a large shorthaired breed, about three feet tall at the shoulders and weighs about 140 lbs. Great Danes are generally sweet, affectionate dogs and adjust well to apartment living too, as long as they get daily long walks. Great Danes are quite well with children, as long as Great Danes trained not to jump on them. Great Danes are good learners and you can teach any tricks, just need some patience and time. Great Dane can easily get alone with other pets.
The Great Dane -Origin
"Apollo of all dogs" is the name given to the Great Dane. Dogs resembling the Great Dane are visible on Greek money dating back to 36 B.C. There are also drawing’s of the Great Dane on Egyptian monuments of about 3000 B.C. The earliest writings of dogs that resemble the Great Danes were in Chinese literature dating back to 1121 B.C. In 407 A.D. German Gaul and part of Italy and Spain were invaded by an Asiatic people (the Alan’s) who brought with them powerful mastiff-like dogs. These dogs admired for their ability to bring down bear and wild boar. These dogs thought to have been Wolfhound mixed with old English Mastiff. With selective breeding, the Greyhound added in to create the Great Dane. Besides used as a hunter, this dog used as estate guard dogs The Great Dane got recognition in 1887. Some of the Great Dane's talents are tracking, watchdog, and carting.

The Great Danes are very large, elegant, and powerful dogs. The preferred height for male Great Danes is 32 inches at the shoulder, or higher. Females should stand 30 inches or taller. Show dogs are disqualifies if male Great Dane stand less than 30 inches (76 cm), or female Great Dane stand less than 28inches (71cm). Male Great Dane average weight is between 135 to 150 pounds and females fall anywhere between 120 to 135 pounds. The Great Dane comes in several colors including fawn, brindle, black, blue, harlequin, or mantle. Though the Great Danes are massive dogs, they should be square in proportion, with the length of the body matching the height. The Great Danes have rectangular heads. The Great Danes have high-set ears of medium size, which often cropped. If not cropped, the ears fold forward, toward the cheek. The long tail diminishes in thickness towards the end and should never crop.

Worked as a guide and now is the owner of “Eco Adventure Trails”
“Quitter never wins and winner never quits” Mr. Dhirender says, the owner of Eco Adventure Trails’ at Mcleodgang, 10 kilometers from Dharamshala, who started as guide. From childhood he was passionate towards adventure sports. First he completed all the courses of trekking and mountain climbing from Manali, when he was in college. His parents wanted him to pursue civil or defense services, but his passion towards adventure sports didn’t let him stay at home. He started as a mountain guide in 1993. People told him that it is not long term career and there is no money in it. He was the person who thinks from his heart and didn’t care what people were saying. Mountains were home for him, and he did many expeditions at Kumao, Garhwal, Laddakh and Lahaul & Spiti and worked as mountaineering instructor for 10 years at regional mountaineering centre at Mcleodgang.
He became expert in mountain climbing and trekking so he began to get
Mountain Rescue Missions. He had done many mountain rescues at
Dhauladhar ranges and done para-guiding rescues at the time of
International Event at Billing valley. Still was fresh in his mind,
when he with 5 members team, went to rescue Joel Kitchen (paraglider).
Who went missing during a paragliding competition at Bir.
(April.26.2003) Due to inclement weather, the team lost its way and went
missing for 2 days. One of the team members also became critically ill.
Fortunately, after 2 days, the team spotted a small village and
survived, but Jeol Kitchen is still missing till now.
He also has experienced many adventure sports like paragliding, snow skiing and Water sports like river rafting etc. In 2005 he started his own company “Eco Adventure Trails”, registered under Himachal Tourism and also registered at IMF (Indian Mountaineering Foundation) at Delhi as LO(Liefon Officer:- Agent of center government, who accompany foreigners for expeditions). His company organize short and long treks at Dhauladhar mountain at laddhakh, Lahaul & Spiti, Chamba, Kullu , Kangra and Garhwal. Conduct schools and colleges camps full of adventure sports and helps in building leadership and team working quality.
He also worry about the global problem of green house effect, and says ,keep the earth green and clean, and had participated in many NGO,s for this motive. When asked about the career opportunity in this field, he said that there is lot of opportunity and every year the Himachal state government organizes guide course, free of cost at regional centre Dharamshala, by getting training a person can start his own business. He smiled and said, if there is a will there is a way for any career and hard work is key to success.

The Afghan Hound is a very ancient dog, belonging to Sinai (Northeast Egypt), and mentioned in Egyptian papyruses (writing-material made in ancient Egypt) as well as pictured in the caves of northern Afghanistan more than 4000 years ago. Many people believe the Afghan Hound is the most ancient of breeds. The actual age of the breed is in controversy, as there are different views of its origin, but most acknowledge that the Afghan Hound history goes back to approximately 8,000 years. The breed kept pure for centuries, and its exporting to another country was always legally ban. Therefore, the Afghan Hound reached Europe by smuggling in early 19th century. The Afghan hound was used as a shepherd and hunter of many types of game including deer, wild goats, and even wolves and snow leopards. The Afghan Hound was also used by shepherds as herders and watchdogs. The Afghan Hound is very fast and agile runner, the Afghan Hound pursues game by sight. The Afghan Hound thick coat protects against temperature extremes. In Europe and America, the Afghan Hound has become a luxurious pet because of his distinguished beauty. On 3rd August 2005, Korean scientists announced that they have successfully clone a dog, an Afghan Hound name Snuppy.
